There is (a lot, I don't know the number) members here, and it takes about 1 day for new threads in the "engine" section to get moved to page 2 form my observations.

Here in the lounge, it takes about 1-3 days to get pushed to page 2.

(these are if nobody makes a new post in a thread).

So, I was thinking sub-sections, and casually mentioning it for a while and thought what the masses, moderators, and jon thought about it. My idea would be similar to this: click here

long story short:
engine: broken down into multiple sub-categories (exhaust, intake/carb, f.i./ignition, etc.)

the lounge would simply have an auto-related section and a non-auto related section.

Post your comments and all... I think this would be a good idea to get each other's posts a bit more exposure on page1.

Nah, i don't see the point of complicating something that works fine in a simple form. The only place that seems to get enough traffic to warrant sub-forums is engine, maybe divide that up into two parts but thats as far as I would go. New members end up posting in the wrong forums anyway most of the time and more forums would just complicate that, as well as making a bigger job for the moderators. I think it works fine, and why change a good thing.

I think the current layout is fine with the one exception: I would like to see an exhaust forum. I have seen alot of header/muffler posts in the engine forum.

It would complicate things a little.... but it doesn't make much difference to me. This is a great site, with an awesome bunch of people on it, and it will continue to be great no matter what is done to it.

Hmm, interesting idea but I tend to think that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I like it the way it is, but if a change is necessary I'd get used to it.

Yeah that does sound like a good idea, A category for junk and then a category for everything else

I would just hate to see certain sections go idle for long periods of time. I have been on many a forum that has way too many idle sub-forums. Seems pointless to me.

this is one of the busiest forums on the internet, see how long the average engine post stays on page 1 and has time to sit for a little bit and get a few more people's thoughts and opinions.

If the engine forum was broken down into chevy-and everything else, it wouldn't be great in my opinion since all makes have similar problems (to an extent, such as carb problems, etc.) I'd seperate it into parts.

The lounge really doesn't need split into "car related" and "not car related" since it isn't that busy yet. I was just thinking and seing what everyone's opinions were/are.

I could see a "Performance" and a "Problems/Maintenance" section. And I agree with eventually, but definitely not now, we will need a Misc Car and then an Everything Else lounge.

I like your idea for a section of performance and the other for problems. Since over half the posts in the engine forum are mainly people asking about how much horsepower their combo makes or which cam or carb would work best. Because Ive know a bunch of posts of ones with problems get knocked to page 2 real quick and sometimes get forgotten before they get the answer their looking for sometimes. I think just splitting up the engine section would be enough to change. But personally I don't care if its changed or not, just my 2 cents.
