After the bog, how does it run? Strong on out to red line, or not so much.
Does the bog coincide w/the secondaries opening, OR the step up springs lifting the needles? The springs are related to the engine vacuum, so you'll be able to tell if you can set up a vacuum gauge that can be easily seen from the cockpit, or preferably read by a passenger.
