Hurst Linkage Diameter?

I'm replacing a Hurst Competition Plus shifter in my Vette with a brand new one that I got from Summit Racing. The older hurst was in the car when I bought it years ago, and the linkage is different from the new one. First, the diameter of the old rods is 7/16" and the new ones are 5/16". The rod alignment pins slip onto the old one and has a nut on both sides to secure. The new rods alignment pins screw onto the rods, and no nuts. The shifter appears to be the same. The transmission mounting plate looks different, and has been cut up a bit. My first impression, of course, is that they've either cheapened the new ones, or what was in there is not a Competition Plus. Any ideas of what's happened?

Tnx for your help!

I can't answer about the parts you have.. But I bought a NOS 1966 Hurst shifter w/linkage kit and the quality was TONS better that what I see now.

Do you know that you can send your old Competition Plus back to Hurst to be rebuilt? I think it costs about 40 plus freight both ways. And yes the new shifters and install kits are different. To get a good shifter, you have to order the Super Speedway shifter and kit, which may not fit in your Vette console.
