Hurst Shifters

I've got a Hurst Indy shifter and it's getting a little sloppy, sometimes it hangs up going from 2nd to 3rd. I'm thinking its time for an upgrade and am wondering how much better the Competition Plus shifter is.

Thanks
Steve

re: Hurst Shifters

The Competition Plus is one of the best shifters there is, and has been for a long time.

re: Hurst Shifters

The Competition Plus is an excellent shifter, very rugged and durable. I used one for years in my street/strip 71 GTO till I got a Vertical Gate Inline, but still have the C/P, and the best part is that it was used when I got it in 79 and till I took it out of the GTO about 2 years ago it had out lasted 2 other cars.

re: Hurst Shifters

Try putting steel bushings in place of the plastic ones. It makes it vibrate a little more, but it is a lot tighter.

I imagine that you have the linkages lined up properly. You may have bent a rod slightly.

If I recall,

you can send your shifter to Hurst and they will rebuild it for you.

I bought a comp plus from Summit last year for $275.00, this included the shifter, linkage (toploader) and the big boot. ( i like the look of the big boot!)

Hurst Shifters

I wonder how many of the replies on this forum are also spam. Hurst had a forum on their site until today when they shut it down. There were many unanswered question pertaining to quality and service, and none were replied to. Many had complaints of deteriorating shifter boots that basically fell apart, that they had made in China to save a few cents.
