HVLP compared to a gravity spray gun.

I have two spray guns. One is a HVLP and the other is a gravity feed but not HVLP. I have cleaned both guns and adjusted the volume and fan pattern all the way, out on both guns. I have adjusted the air pressure at the gun at 40 pounds on both guns. (Recomendation on both guns from factory) The HVLP gun sprays much less paint than the gravity gun almost to the point of dry spraying.

Is it normal with all adjustments and air pressure being the same for an HVLP gun to spray less paint than a gravity gun?

No, HVLP guns can put out plenty of paint, however it will be less of a fine mist and more of a shotgun of fine droplets.

One thing that's important to remember is that everybody that paints, paints differently. Many people's technique is similar but, it's like a fingerprint, no two are alike. Following the manufacturer's set up information is important, fine tuning a paint gun to how you paint is exactly that...fine tuning. If you feel that that your HVLP puts out less paint, maybe slow done, what's important here is what your painting looks like after your done. If it has Orange peel, you need to work on gun adjustment or technique.

As far as your question about it being normal for a HVLP to spray less paint than a regular gravity feed gun...that's hard to answer because, you have two different guns...That's like asking what's faster, a Dodge or a Ford or how long is the string in my pocket...to answer all three questions, you need more information...because there are to many variables.
