HVLP Gun
I am currently doing body work on my '35, and want to appply Primers after I complete a few panels. I will not be painting much ( I might Paint the Dash, a few Engine parts, so on), but mostly wnat to paint Primer. I noticed that Eastwood has a Devilbis Finishline paint gun set for about $100.00-is this a good choice? Do I need to buy a $400.00 Sata or Iwata? I have done a Search here and can't seem to find any comments-Please weigh in here, guys!
Thanks, Craig |

I have a Finish Line gun and love it, mainly for the "bag" system
it comes with. I don't know if they are all like mine but putting a bag in the cup and sealing it shut is great. You can use 1 quart freezer bags by Zip-Lock or buy the ones like the kit comes with. You can really shake it to keep it mixed and even spray upside down. I have an Astro gun that sprays better and cost a lot less, and now you can buy a liner kit like the Finish Line one that is universal with different adaptors. Since I got one of these and have the bag system for my Astro I may never spray with anything else. It really makes clean-up easy too. The only advantage of the Finish Line one I have is it uses less air than any of my guns and sprays at a lower pressure, it works good at 25 PSI. |

Bought it! Thank you! I am now hoping that I can buy other Tip for this (1.3, 1.8, etc.). Has anyone been able to? If not, back to my original question-which gun for Primer?
Thanks for the help, Craig |

The gun you have would do the primer. I have a 1.4 tip and using SPI 2K primer with no problem

Some simple advice.
Buy 3 gun's. 2 at least. Primer,Paint,Clear or Primer,base/clear and you'll never have a problem with cross contamination. Especally primer as it's 3 times as hard to clean out than base or clear. You can spray primer with a 1.3 IF you want but you don't get the build like with a 1.7-2.0. Besides, After doing some paint work you'll be addicted like the rest of us and it won't go away. You'll be painting everything in site once you get into it. jc, Could you elaborate on what/where on the "universial" bag set-up? I have it on my 'D and love it but haven't been able to find anything that fit's other gun's. DON'T use the Hefty type "slide lock" bag. They pop open from the pressure (?) when you shake it up. Defeat's the whole concept.

Yeah, They have their "cup" system which is great, but this is something entirely different. IF you had a proper sized "fitting" for the cup opening, most cup's are the same as far as I know, DeVillbliss has a smaller opening in their cup to accecpt their "fitting" which is inserted into the bag with a pointed tool and twisted into the cup opening. These won't fit other cup's.
