Hydro-boost noise
The brakes on my 86 GMC 1-ton pu with hydro-boost have started screaming when pedal is depressed. The noise is coming from inside the power steering pump. Fluids are up and belt is tight. Should I be looking to replace the power steering pump or hydro-boost or both? Truck still stops fine.
Thanks folks. |

Probably a bad steering pump. Are you sure its coming from inside the pump? The way power steering belts squeak from hydroboost is different from how they squeak from turning the steering wheel when the belt is loose.
Try changing the belt tension and see if the noise changes. If not, time for a new PS pump. The hydroboost itself rarely fails, and since the noise is coming from the pump, its the culprit. |
