Using a Hypertech III to reprogram my '04 Monte Carlo SC SS - all mods input were successful except for the W-series tire / 166 mph command - car continues to shut down at about 112 mph and won't pull more than 4300 rpm in 4th gear - anyone with similar experience / problems . . .

I used one for awhile on my Z28, basically just for the speed limiter and gears/tire size. I didn't have any problems with mine but wanted to ask, is that the highest speed rated tire that you have on the menu? I haven't used one for a couple of years, but it seems like the one for the '01 fbody had a higher rated tire/speed choice available, but I may be mistaken about that.

If it is the highest rated you might try one rating lower and see if it takes that. If it does then try the W again. I don't know if it'd help, but it won't hurt (as long as you make sure your battery has a good charge).

Thanks for your response - the Hypertech III #30030 I'm using allows choices for the top speed limiter of 110/116/122/128/147/166/184/255 mph. I chose the W-series tire setting of 166 mph - not because I believe the car will go there but because it corresponds to the factory installed tires. I'm going to try other choices as you suggested and will post the results as they become available.

I'm glad you posted the speeds yours has. I was thinking I set mine at 255, but wasn't sure,,, and it does sound pretty crazy,, "well I have my speed limiter set at 255 "

Hope one of the other settings work for you.
