this is why. my truck, 9:1 cr sbc, will run on forever on todays regular gas. it almost all has ethanol in it. alcohol, as we all know increases octane. octane is supposed to STOP running-on. SO WHY DOESNT IT???????????

when i put Union 76 regular in my truck, with NO ethanol, it does NOT run-on anymore. effects are immediate. thanks for imparting any k-nowledge my way.

Wat is the idle speed and does it differ depending on which gas you run.

Could be real low octane fuel with ethanol to prop up the octane rating.:nono:

IIRC anything over 10 % Ethanol content is not legal to sell in pump gas. E 85 not included in that .
There is a presumptive to test for the amount of ethanol in gasoline. Just google it. Then go down to the station and get a cup of gas and do the test.
It probably isnt the ethanol, its probably really crappy gas mixed with ethanol, and probably more than legally allowed.

e10 carried it's own oxygen, that may make a engine thats running lean.. run way lean, causing the carbon in the cyl. to get hot enough to run on..
a seafoam cleaning might help clean out the carbon in the cyl ..

i'll go with the crappy gas. even on their midgrade sometimes my truck will run on. but never on the 76 regular w/o alcohol. all this with a cool running engine btw.

The motor cannot run on if the throttle blades are closed. Early 70's GM cars used a solenoid that closed the blades when it was de-activated (key off). When you turned the key on, 12v activated the solenoid and it moved the throttle plates to the idle position. You can still find the arrangement in boneyards and adapt it to your carb. I haven't fooled with them for many years now, but I'll bet you could still buy a new solenoid over the counter at your local Chevy dealer.

The ethanol gas should cause it to run slightly lean. Why not not just up the jet size of the carb. Do you have a wideband 02 sensor? Id guess your on the lean side with the ethanol free fuel, and excessivly lean with it. Could also retard the timing a bit.
