I blew my Auburn posi apart this week end.

so much for it being stronger then a stock posi.
the posi i had in my trans am took 4 years of BB abuse and never once let me down.
my monte has a Auburn posi and it flys apart after 6 passes.
i thought these were supose to be stronger then stock.
i got the car with this posi in it i guess the guy i got it from should have put a spool in it instead of this POS posi.
oh well it will have a spool in it next time i take it out.
can anyone tell me if its a 8.5 or a 7.5 10 bolt.
its the stock housing and the car is a 77 monte carlo.
anyways heres a pic of what i found when i took the cover off.

You've already got it apart just measure your ring gear. If it measures to 7.5 inches thats what it is. and if it measures to 8.5" then its a 8.5

Yours should have an 8.5", but to be sure, look at the backside and compare it to the two drawings below (stolen from ColoradoK5.com). Look at the projections at the 5:00 & 7:00 positions. The 8.5", on the right, has two big triangular projections. The 7.5", on the left, has two little thin "fangs".
