I didnt know where to put this.............

I have 2 questions about simple hood hinges. I have hinges that have become coarse over the span of 30+ years. The coarseness is due to shallow surface rust. I grease them with packing grease and eventually it wears off.
1) Would it be beneficial to take the hinges off and sand em' down??
My second question has to do with alignment. 2) If I have to push one side down before the other (hinges) to get them both to unlock allowing the hood to be closed, is that just simple alignment??

As far as sanding the hinges, good luck. Most are rivited at the joint. If that is the case, you most likely won't be able to sand where they are rubbing without removing the rivits. Personally I have never been able to get hinges freed up enough to work after they got to that condition. I don't know if there are supposed to be some kind of spacers in between the pieces or not. If they are metal to metal, I am wondering if they could be dipped in acid to remove the rust, then repainted. I sure would love to hear the solution to that. I would think one of our experts could answer that for sure.

On the problem closing, sounds to me like just sticking hinges.
