I don't know what to call it...

something weird happens to my engine. its a 383 stroker from Blueprint and when it gets hot, it sounds like as if air is being released at the compression stroke. i don't feel any change in performance because it has always done it from what i can remember. it's just annoying. no way i could look into now because of the harsh northeast ohio winter; something i will have to look into when spring hits. again, it isnt hurting the engine from what i can tell it's just annoying and something i like to get rid of. a buddy of mine told me to tighten the spark plugs a little more because something similar was happening to him and all he did was tighten them up and problem was solved. i did the same thing in the fall and it's still there. any thoughts?

Bad header gaskets? Broken spark plug? Hole in the header?

well, i know its not the spark plugs or headers because i did have a hole in my first set of headers, called hooker and they gave me another pair because it was a manufacturing mistake. and i know its not the spark plugs because i just put a new set in after fouling out the previous set. i would have to check the gaskets because i always seem to have a decent leak.

What type of cooling fan do you have?
Have you done any kind of compression test?

I think i know the sound you're talking about. Its probably and exhaust leak. Is there any flex pipe in the system at all? It will make a similar noise at medium to full throttle.

wouldnt soapy water just evaporate when it hits the engine or exhaust? and the cooling fan is a stock setup. that actually does hit the shroud just enough to make a noise, but that is an isolated sound. but no i havent done a compression check. i cant believe i didnt think of that! DUH! and big dog, i want to lean towards your theory. i hope its just an exhaust leak because i cant ever get that thing i stop leaking. i even used the copper gaskets and they still leaked! oh the joys of being a hot rodder... yes? and sorry guys for no video yet. i couldnt upload one onto my computer. im pretty dumb when it comes to computers haha.

spray bottle with soapy water is how i used to find leaks in exhaust, headgasket, and turbo systems, etc. try it, it works good to find stuff when you cant nail down the exact source

Almost all motors have a certain amount of blowby . all the motors i have ever built 'marine -auto' will hiss at you when you spin the motor over by hand . but the ' when its hot ' is a good one . i would do a comp test and if you find a suspect then do a leak down , if you find a valve thats leaking then back off or take off that rocker arm , if its still doing it then you have a valve or seat issue . no big deal unless its going bythe piston .

carb cleaner

for on top of the engine a small squirt of carb cleaner or either will idle the engine up if the leak goes both ways! never spray either or carb cleaner directly into a running engine. unless you just love doing valvetrain work
