I got pulled over for the first time today.

I had to be at work by 4:00am for a shutdown at a high school I've been doing demolition prep. in. I was driving down the road the school is off of, all the traffic lights are blinking yellow, except the one I turn at to go into the school parking lot, it's blinking red. I was going fast, I didn't make a complete stop for the 4 way red blinking light, and I didn't signal to make the left into the parking lot. Then I notice this car flying up on my bumper with his hi-beams on, I thought who the hell is this guy. boom his lights come on, damn it's a cop, so I pulled into a parking spot and shut the car off, flicked my dome light on, and put my hands on the steering wheel.

My window was already down, officer walks up with his mag lite shining on me, "license and registration please" I told him it was in my back pocket, is it ok I get it out, he says yea. He's looking at my information, he asks what I'm doing 40 miles away from home at 3:45 in the morning. I told him I was doing construction in the school and we were starting at 4:00 today. He said you know you were doing 50 in a residential, whats the hurry? You're 15 minutes early for work. I said, well we usually get ready 10 minutes early and I wanted some time to eat my muffin (I point at the Dunkin Donuts bag on the passenger seat) before my foreman shows up. He said well you also didn't come to a complete stop or signal before turning in here. I said I know. Then the officer says, you seem a little nervous, is there anything illegal in the vehicle I should know about? I said no, this is the first time I've ever been pulled over so I'm a little nervous, but you can search my car if you want to. He said no thats ok, and you don't have anything to be nervous about. I said the amount my insurance is going to go up from this ticket would make anyone nervous. The officer laughed and said well since you've never been pulled over before, and it looks like you learned something from this, I'm going to let you go. I said, kind of shocked, with a warning? Cop said, yep. I shook his hand and thanked him. Nice guy huh?

Some of us are nice, aren't we. Too bad not all cops are as nice as this one.

Putting your dome light on and your hands on the wheel and being honest with him told him a lot about you as well. Nice going.

I figured pulling into an empty school parking lot that early must have looked really suspicious so I did everything I could to keep him from wondering if I would try to run, or grab a weapon.

ticket

I got pulled over about 3 years ago for running a red light. It was clearly my fault. I was following a guy and had no idea where he lived. He ran the yellow and i went thru on the red. I guess i had brain fade for a second. The cop was sitting right there and pulled me over. when he got to the window i did the same basic thing as you except i had my owners card and insurance card. I did not want to reach around for my wallet.. He ask if he could see my license and when i got them out he spotted my carrying permit, and promtly asked if i had a weapon with me. I didn't but i know it's the first thing to tell the officer when he approches if you do. He ask me if i knew why i got pulled over and i stated that it probably was because i ran the red light. I told him the story and he left me off with a warning. I think he was shocked because i was truthful with him about everything.... I was so happy i could have kissed him, but i guess that would have resulted in some jail time for me so i just thanked him very much.........

Don't get me started on cops. Some are nice guys I must admit they helped me out of some sticky situations. Some guys must think they can't sit down for the size of their brass bearings. I've had more run ins with the latter.

There are reasons they got the nickname of PIG

And its not because they come off so nice, most of them are the latter kind....not so nice and power hungry. They generally deal with the dregs of society and are harsh with a regular citizen because they treat everyone like that. Just stay clear of the boys in blue!
