Kalifornia plates don't have the reflector additive. Just plain old enamel paint.

Willys, of course you are right on the money. Californa didn't go to the refective until well after any hot rodder woud give a crap. About 1980? or so when we went to the white plates with blue letters. I don't know of anyone who could care less if their 1990 plates are restored or not.

Good point Martin. I guess they did go hi-tech with those white background plates. Since my newest plate is good old yellow on black, I haven't kept up on the latest tech.

well i got it painted, now just need to do the yellow lettering
here is an email regarding the colors, its from a professional plate restorer

Hi Alex, and thanks for your email. On the colors, I had the blue base matched at an auto paint store by using a good example. The yellow I mix using the One Shot lettering enamel. It uses mainly chrome yellow, a little imitation gold, and a dot of black. Here again, matching to a good original.
