I had the same problem but with the manifold vacuum port behind the carb and had to use a spacer. I think someone else mentioned your best option, tap that plug a little deeper. What is it, maybe 1/2" pipe thread? Coat the tap with grease to collect the shavings and push it a little deeper and you may be good
