I just bought a 1956 ford f100 pick up and it has drum brakes on it.it has a chevy 350 with a 350 turbo.it original brake pedal comes up through the floor.i want to put power brakes on it.i would like to take a whole set up off another truck with a swing pedal set up.and use it on my 56.thanks for any information that ii can get.
Personally, I would disagree with Vince. There is no better quality available than a factory OEM part. Booster, MC, and pedal assembly from a factory installation should not only be top quality but replacement parts will be available from your local auto parts store.
Obviously, you do need to start with a new M/C for which ever assembly you choose.
Is there a reason to convert to hanging pedals ?? There are nice power set-ups available for under floor that will retain the original pedal...
As for what year would be a direct replacement for hanging pedals, I can't help.
The problem with using a hanging pedal on a 56 F100 is the steering column is so low in the floor that it interferes with just about any brake pedal you can find. I have used a 70s F100 hanging pedal, but the pedal hits the column, and has to be reshaped to clear. And even then it is tight fitting both the throttle and brake pedal on the same side of the column.
Better to use this bracket with the stock pedal, and use a Fox Mustang 8" dual diaphram booster, and a 90s F150 master cylinder. You will have to redrill one of the booster mounting holes on the bracket to make the Mustang booster fit. Booster mount for F100 - Brake pedal\master cylinder mounts - Brake Systems
The pedal assembly I used was from a Jeep Comanche in my 48 Ford F1. Modifications were made and the booster is aftermarket.
