Angry I Need Your Opinion!!

This little deal has come up where I can get either a 1977 or 1978 Ford F-150 pickup with a 302 and a T-5.It's carbed and dad said that it was in pretty good shape.I think that I can get it for $400.It's got the 9" rear also.All that I want is the engine,transmission and maybe the rear end.I'll probably part the rest of it out.

Now..The deal is that I wanted to do a 302/5.0 swap with my 1992 Ranger.I really wanted an EFI 5.0,but this is the sweetest deal that I can get right now.I haven't really looked for a 5.0 'Stang,but I'm going to start looking pretty quick.Anyway..I don't know what to do.I can go carbed for $400 or I can go EFI for over $1,000.What I figure is that I can go carbed for now and save my money and do it right after high school?What do you guys think?I between a rock and a hard place .

Jacob

Jacob;

If U can get a 77-78 F-150 in fair shape for $400, grab it. Do the Ranger when U can afford it, and when it's completely finished, sell the F-150, or keep it for a beater, so U don't bang up the Ranger. Those F-150s make a nice ride too without a lot of money. Lower it a few inches, add some wheels and tires, tint the glass, run loud mufflers, and U got a pretty cool truck.

I was thinking of getting this pickup,taking out the 302 and the transmission,and sticking it in the Ranger for now.This little 2.3L seems like its getting tired .Anyway..When I get the money,I'll take all of that back out and do it right.I believe that the transmission is a T-5.What are some things that I can look for to check?That's about the only 5 speed that Ford made isn't it?

I'm with kitkar, buy the F150 and drive it while you prep the Ranger for the swap and take the 600 extra you would have spent on an injected drivetrain and watch for another deal. Trust me you're gonna need a truck while all this is going on and why have 2 dead ones at the same time ?

I might just take ya'll's advice .It sounds like a winner to me .I can just put liability on the 'ol truck to save on insurance to high school and look for a deal to do the Ranger.

I just don't know what to do though .I kinda want to keep the little Ranger stock and then I want a 302 in it.I'm also worried about it not working out.I'm going to go ahead and buy a few manuals for the swap to see how big of a pain that it is.

I also found a 1988 5.0 T-Bird in Fayetteville.That's not too far away from where we picked up my Ranger lol.Anyway..It's been wrecked in the front and he wants $800.All I want is the drivetrain and the computers.All the goodies anyway.I may be able to get him to come down a little on that.But,I think that this F-150 is the best idea at the moment.

I've heard of those Turbo 2.3's before.Anyone have any info on 'em?Would it be cheaper to build than a EFI 5.0?

Alright..I'm down to the bottom line.

I can get the F-150 for $300.I haven't looked it over or heard it run yet,but that comes next weekend when I seal the deal.As long as it runs and drives,I'm not worried about it.Where else can you get a running 302,T-5,and a Ford 9" rear end for $300??

Do you guys know of some numbers on the engine and transmission that I can look at to make sure that they're a 302 and a T-5?I want to make sure that I'm getting what I'm paying for.
