If you want to lower the front, take that chevy out of there and put in a 460.

I have a chevy setting in my 54 f100 right now too.I am not sure if I am going to use it or a 302 that I just got.
I put a gm front clip on mine but I don,t have it running yet.I kind of wish now that I would have done what Poncho said and gone with a drop axle and some disc brakes.

Actually, me too.....I had a good solid rebuilt front axle in my 51 when I got it.......so I lopped it off and put a Nova clip in......That was the thing to do back then.......It lowers it and makes the ride great etc, but the nostalgia factor goes away pretty quick....LOL

Being a ford guy i couldn't agree with you more. I want to look for a 351.

You can check out my photo gallery on my 56 F100. That's as low as you can go. My front bumper is 6.5 inches from the ground (oh yea, I scrape on driveways). I have the straight axle front end as well. I purchased a drop axle from Mor-drop axles (do a search) They have been around for years. If on spending about $350 or more for a good axle. You have to be careful where you buy the axle from. When they bend or drop the axles, it has to be done correctly or you'll be wandering all over the street. There are several articles out there on drop axle installs. I also used a reverse eye main spring on the leaf springs. You can remove several leafs from the spring pack as well. (Leave at least 3 springs or you'll bottom out on everything) Or you can go like most guys do and install a Mustang II or Volare clip on the front. Airbags work well too. Depends on what you want. If you want the rat rod theme, I'd stay with the drop axle and straight axle front end. Check out CPP (Classic performance Parts) they have tons of stuff for your pickup. They have a great disc brake conversion that works for that front end as well.
