I have made them out of thick plywood and sanded them smooth even added so 1 x1 boards so i could sand a larger curve and still have something to scew together. Then cover with speaker carpet or fiberglass and paint. Carpet is usaly easier and matches better since you can buy in any color and black is usally ok if color cant be matched.
You can also use the plywood box as a mold for fiberglass only console.
