Post Id on a Ford 9"??

I'm trying to ID a supposedly 9" Ford rear-end, but I'm trying to avoid taking it apart to count the gears. It's 28 spline, 56" backing plate to backing plate, has 10" brake drums (which I don't think are origional since the center hole is bigger than the axle end). The wheel studs are a 4 & 1/2 inch bolt pattern. I thought it was a Mustang, but the axle seals for a Mustang were too small. The Brake shoes are 2" wide. I'm not sure if the backing plates are the correct ones- they may have been changed. has anyone out there been through this before? Thanks for any help you can offer.
