Question Idea for a new carb...?

Wonder if this has been thought of...?

Take the idea of a reg 4bbl Holley carb and looking from the top into the venturis... Now picture this... The Iris of a camera opens in a smooth perfectly round hole from the center outward correct...? Why not make the throttle plate (yes just one large plate) in this form...? You could put a 2 or 4 legged booster centered or even the ring style used in some racing apps...? It seems this would provide very smooth efficent flow of air and fuel...? Also it should work extremely well with a single plane manifold or even a dual (with air gap) A very centralized flow... Also this idea could be useful possibly with a tuned port setup...? Or most any other type of throttle plate controlled fuel system...?

BTW I have a patent pending on this idea... I just wanted to hear others on this...?

He must have a proto type......In order to apply for a patten you have to have a working product...But I hope you applied for the patten before 2002.......There is a guy in england that has been working on a very similar thing......

Actually you don't need a prototype to apply for a patent, just drawings and a description of how it works. They haven't required a working prototype for many, many years.

Camera type iris throttle blades have been thought of before, I would do a patent check before you think you have reinvented the wheel.

The big problem is fitting all the parts into a Holley four barrel space, not easy. The other big problem is there will be no positive closing force to act on the iris which could be dangerous when the iris is loaded at high rpm and stuck WOT. Don't forget the load from engine vacuum will deflect the blades meaning you cannot use a thin blade for the iris mechanism. People have been thinking of this mechanism for poppet valve replacement for a long time now, the mechanism is just to fragile for high loads it seems.

Good luck, keep inventing.
