That is an idea too! One of the dream cars was posted on this thread with that in mind but I hadn't really thought about it at that time. Now after some time has passed and we are revisiting this thread it sounds more doable to me.

I do like the 58 Chevy light, they are a classic and have been installed on a rear pan of many of these trucks.

Ok, I broke open my wallet and bought a 53 Corvette Tail lamp. Now mind you, these cars are the BOMB to me, this is the ultimate of ultimate dream cars for me. I would have to sell my home to buy one so that is out, having a few pieces of one to put on my truck is as close as I am going to get.

You guys have gotten me thinking. And putting it up at the top of the bed rail is getting more and more do-able to me. I am thinking of a "pod" with fins on it exactly as the Corvette. I want to get the real thing, I will be watching eBay for one. They turn up every once in a while.

I'm thinking I'll get one of these one day and use it to pull a mould and make the thing out of glass, I don't know, just thinking. It would be cool to have the real thing to make it from.

If it were mine, I'd probably be looking at early-50's Buick or Mercury lights mounted low in the fenders

Now, if you really wanted to be different, how about a narrowed early-60's Fleetside box with late-40's to early 50's Chevy quarter panels?
You could either used the early tear drop fenders with the lights hidden behind a set of louvers running over the top; or you could use the later fenders and recreate the Corvette shape
Maybe even use the side coves from a mid-60's Mustang to make a little scoop in the front edge

There will be NO parts on the truck after 55 or so and it all has to be GM.

Would the Corvette light fit the Olds pod?

That's a good question, they are 4" in diameter. But I don't want to use anything that has too much of a "Known" look too, not off something so old because after all this is a NEW design in 1953.

OK ... You might take a good look at the head lights and the rear quarters of a '55 Olds
And how about working the center bar of a '55 Pontiac into the dash?

Meaning that the 30's Olds tail light pods are just about the right size to be turned around and used for bullets in the grill ... possibly with a '54 Olds bumper

What? Turning the grill insert of a '55 Pontiac into a dash isn't thinking far enough outside the box?
How about the ribbed center section from a '55 Holden FJ (still a GM product) grill?
And I keep looking at the parking light pods on a '51 Buick ...
Several possible uses for those, and '53-54 Chevy bumper guards have a similar shape

what if you took a piece of big rig 4" exhaust pipe and made a pod that mounted off the bedside on the idea of the 40's cars that the headlight pods lifted out of the fenders,

instead of them being coming out of the cars front fender top, they'll be coming out of the bed side

In this "pod" I will have to have fins like the Corvette, but yes that is what I am thinking. Of course I am a bit ahead of myself being the cab is in a million pieces in the garage.
