idendifying a sbc engine

hi i have just purchase a chevy small block for my project a 1966 chevelle malibu the numbers i found on the engine are 3914678 which show to be a 1968 302 can anyone help in veriflying this

This is the casting number for a 4 inch bore block from 1968, it could contain a 302, 327, or 350 crankshaft. There is a pad on the passenger side front of the block that just overhangs the head there should be an engine number and VIN number (unless the block's been decked) these will lead you to knowing what the original use was and its displacement. Barring that you need to measure the stroke, 3.00 inch is a 302, 3.25 inch is a 327, 3.48 inch is a 350.
