identifying my 350 sbc
can somebody help me identify the 350 sbc engine i have in my kitcar?
i need to know year and hopefully what kind of car or truck it came out of. the block number is 3970010 and the engine pad says: 16b498955 or it could be 16b4j8955 k08 18 cmj (sorry about numbers but it is doubled stamped and hard to read).

3970010 = Gen I 350 '68-'86
CMJ = 1974 350, THM400, Full-size car, Police, 4-bbl.

thanks for the info on my sbc engine. did you get the information from a book and if so could i get the name of the book so i could get one. thanks. redchevy

I know the block casting number by heart from working on a multitude of small block Chevies for the last 50 years. I got the suffix information from nastyz28.com
