idle mixture

I bought a used Holley 6170 carb and was wanting to know for the idle mixture screws, how many turns will be good for my stock sbc 350.

Use a vacuum gauge, set it at it`s highest vacuum reading.

That is correct. It will be around 1 3/4 to 2 out.

If that won't work when you start the engine, then something is way too far out of wack.

re: idle mixture

kool, I'll try to get my hands on a vacuum gauge. I also heard you can use one of those digital tachs, getting the highest rpm reading. Is this true? Also, if I were to use a vacuum gauge, do I hook it up to a full vacuum port?

thanks guys,
Mark

idle mixture

Yes, hook it up to the constant vacuum port. that way you will have vacuum at idle to set mixture screws out to highest vacuum.
