You can use the 283 crank in the 327 block if its a small journal. The 283 or 327 rods are the same. You will have to use .125 oversize 283 pistons, not the 327 ones, because of the difference in placement of the piston pin to crown dimention. If you use the 327 pistons, the top of the piston will come up out of the bore and introduce themselves to the valves. You will be happier, I think, to freshen up the 327-not to mention the money saved.

Mr. Wormy--Sorry, I wasn't trying to mislead you with my post--I obviously didn't have my thinking cap on yet that AM. It's nice to know that a guy can make a DUMB mistake like that and not get totally reamed out

Does anyone still make 302 pistons (as far as I know 327 block, 283 crank, 5.7" rods)?
4" bore blocks are easy, but can't find a listing for 3" large journal cranks or matching pistons. 350 or 383, no 302. |
