I'm in the process of evaluating IFS units along with a 4 link rear suspension set-up for my 1957 chev Pick-up. With all of the mfg's out there, is there one that truely stands head and shoulders above the rest?

As a old school type of rodder, I am not real fond of most of the store bought ready kits. In my opinion ( and that is JUST my opinion ) they are not sturdy enough and rely on one off and specialty pieces.

On the truck I am doing ( a non Chevrolet ... ) I am using a 85 Jaguar XJ6 front suspension. It has 11" disc brakes, a power rack, and the rotors have the standard 5 on 4.5 Chevrolet wheel pattern ( but with 1/2 - 20 Ford thread wheel studs ). The entire cradle bolts out. Cost was $300 at the local boneyard.

I believe that this type of suspension would adapt to a 55 to 58 Chevrolet pickup very easily.

Others have successfully grafted Camaro/Nova subframes into those trucks. I have a friend who grafted in a 79 Malibu front suspension.

The advantage to adapting a suspension that was readily available is that the parts are readily available also ...

JB, I have a 57 Chevy 1/2 ton short bed and put a Fatman Fabracations stage 2 Mustang II front end in my p/u about 13 years ago and did a NoLimit FatBar 4 bar setup with air bags about 3 years ago. Personally I would not do them again. I would do a Camaro front clip and upgrade the rear leaf springs then relocate the axle housing above the springs. I'm just not real happy with my setup, the bushings in the front end have squeeked since day ONE.

jbmills, for your project I would go with a C4 Corvette front suspension above all other choices. If you purchase an 89 or newer unit, you will get 12" disc brakes, standard 5 on 4.75 Chevrolet bolt pattern, all aluminum suspension components, power rack and pinion steering and excellent geometry. The track width is about 60" which will work fine for your truck. Best of all you can get a good complete front end for around $600 and parts are readily available.
