ignition lock help needed

Its not a hot rod but I need help with my kids 89 pontiac grand prix. It has the tilt column. 2 days ago the lock assembly froze up, wouldnt even wiggle. So yesterday I spent all day taking out the column and replacing the ignition lock assembly. Man, whoever designed that column should be shot. It worked fine yesterday but today the key will not come out of the assembly. Car starts fine. What did I screw up?

steering column

it is probably an adjustment. the part of the column just under the ignition lock must turn counter clock wise fully to get the key out. if it a column shift push up on the shifter.if this works loosen the linkage ajustment nut and push the shifter up and tighten the nut..if it a console shift, put the shifter in park , loosen the adjustment nut and turn the shift bowl counter clock wise and tighten the nut. the shift bowl is the part just under the ignition lock. good luck
