I have a problem with hard/no starting after the engine has been run for about 30 minutes and has come up to temperature. This motor doesn't run hot and stays around 180-185 degrees even on hot days.
I originally thought it was a vapor lock problem but I checked the carbs (dual Carter AFB's) and they are spraying fuel. Then I hooked up a timing light and cranked the motor. There was no spark so obviously it's an ignition problem. I'm just not sure if it's the coil or distributor. Iím running a Mallory Unilite vacuum advance distributor and a normal high performance conventional coil.
Has anyone ever had the electronic module in a Unilight refuse to work when hot? I'm thinking that's the real problem and since I don't race this big block and it never sees 5 grand on the tack, I'm thinking of switching to a dual point setup that won't be bothered by the heat.
