ignition timing

im working on a 1987 ford ranger 2.9 v6 EFI 4X4 . I need to set the timing 10 degree's BTDC. ( BEFORE TOP DEAD CENTER) . I was needing help to understand what it means an how to set it. im setting the ignition timing , or the cam timing . I have the truck running but it is loping real bad dont have no power. When you go to hit the gas it dies.

Doc here,

I'm not a Ford Guy at all...

But I think on that system you need to disconnect the SPROUT plug before base timing it..

Check your manual, or maybe one of the Ford guys can chime in..
