Do yourself a favor before tearing the front end down and retarding the cam-do a compression check to see where it is. 150-170 psi and you're Ok for pump gas, 180+ and it'll take some tuning and probably octane booster to make it work. Thanks a lot bob, i will be sure to do that and report back. I just wish I knew if it was pinging... I don't mind running 45* total timing if it's not detonating... but i hesitate to think that piston timing would be safe.
