Ilegal Dual Exhaust
i was thinking about getting a dynomax dual exhaust for my 88 camaro, i heard somewhere not really a reliable source that adding a dual exhaust to a car that wasnt equiped with it from factory is ilegal and you wont be able to passes emmisions.
I dont know why it would be ilegal dual cats would make emmissions better |

re: Ilegal Dual Exhaust
I have dual exhaust on my 54 Chevy pickup and it passed the emissions test this year ... it sure didn't come that way! I don't get it - am I missing something? What's illegal about duel exhaust?

re: Ilegal Dual Exhaust
The only thing that I would imagine is illegal, would be emissions. Check your laws. There are passes, persay, for older cars in some states. But most likely, you'll just need to have cats in your exaust. Just gut them out if you really want to.
Something like chambered exaust wouldn't have cats. So maybe that's what this person is referring to. TR |

Hey rubber!
I'm also a member over yonder at the f-body forum. How did you set them duals up?
I had thought that running pipes side by side would be the best bet but did you run the under the trans mount or over them. How's the ground clearance? |

re: Ilegal Dual Exhaust
If the car has cats and passes emissions you won't have a problem, the exception to this rule being CA where all parts have to be CARB approved and actually there probably is a CARB approved exaust for a Camaro so it's legal there too.

re: Ilegal Dual Exhaust
Friend of mine has a lowered 87 IROC-Z, he asked me what exhaust system he should go with, since he didn`t have much ground clearance, I told him run a full 3 inch single pipe into the muffler of his choice, he chose a flowmaster with Dual outlets, it sounds like a true dual system, aggressive but not too loud.
