Forget the datsun, for one $1200 is waaay to much and a 350 in it would shake it to peices. Datsun is a predesessor to Nissan, even though they will run for nearly ever (they are french, whattaya exspect :p ) They aren't made for hot rodding. Get an S-10 and make it into a tonka toy, yes they are a dime a dozen, but hold up better and an easier swap/rod.

Hey HK...Japanese not French. Toyota bought out Datsun quite a few years ago. Nissan also Japanese.

Actually Nissan Inc. bought out Datsun in the early eighties. For a while around 83/84 the cars shared both tags Datsun/Nissan. Toyota has nothing to do with it.

dmorris...you're right, I'm wrong. I completely forgot about the "Z" that was Datsun then went to Nissan.

We all make mistakes, I just happened to work for Nissan back then. I used to have an old Datsun 510 before the switch to Nissan. When they were Datsun they had number designations (210, 510), then they switched to names like the Sentra, Stanza, etc. But that's probably a little more jap history than we need to know.

I thought at some point Nissan was french owned or the majority stock holder was french? I remember reading something about it? I could very well be wrong though.

I new they were nipponese, but thought that Nissan was always the parent company selling Datsuns in the home market as Nissans and labeling them as Datsuns for the U.S. market until they decided to use the home market name everywhere.

Renault, the FRENCH automotive company, owns 36.8% of Nissan. That, I belive, makes Renult the majority stock holder. Therefore HK would be correct. Nissan IS a French company.
The world works in mysterious ways. Always remember he is "THE KING".

Just because the French own stock in Nissan doesn't make it a French company. If it's operations are based in Japan it's Japanese. Ford owns stock in Jaguar, I guess that makes Jaguar a domestic car manufacture now. Guess it's no longer the big three here.
