im thinking about putting ether a small block or a big block into my 99 s10 pickup

how would I go about putting a small or a big block into my 99 chevy s10 pickup (standard)

I'd go with a SBC. A BBC is a tough fit, and will require a lot more mods to work in a S10.

now with a sbc would I have to bang the fire wall and do any other modifications. and im guessing that the stock 5 speed manual trans would not fit on the sbc ?

I have a 86 and a 96 s10 both with v8's and did not have to bang in any of the firewall like some people do. The 86 has a little more room on the sides compared to the second gen s10 94 and up. I cut the front of the radiator support to move the radiator forward in order to run a mechanical fan and the cross member for the transmission had to be customized for a turbo 350 tranny and also the drive shaft had to be cut and made to fit the turbo 350. As far as mounts goes the 86 has welded mounts and the 96 has the 2.5 v6 motor mounts with a aftermarket brackets to fit them on the side of the engine. I could not tell you who made them as I bought the truck with a 350 vortec installed so I don't know and the guy bought from was Mexican and he could not speak English well so could not ask much.

ok cool now I have an idea of what I have to do thanks so id have to buy custom motor mounts and a tranny in order for it to run anything else I should know besides the info everyone has gave me

Yep, unless its a maximum effort motor use Shorty headers, the hassle of long tubes just isn't worth it, make sure your cooling system is bulletproof, I ran a big Howe alum Rad and twin elec fans on a stout 383 and it worked OK. If lowering watch your pinion angle or you may end up chasing driveline vibrations. Spend the money on a diff, the little 7.5 isn't going to live long in front of anything real strong....especially if it hooks. Buy a small cap HEI and you should have plenty of firewall space.

Nothing like a powerful V8 in a pick up truck
I'm on my 7th and 8th right now, got a 90 Pro Street Sierra with a 502, 871, Dual Quads, etc... (just a 800-1000 HP street truck)
And I got a little 87 Pro Street Ranger with a 418 cu in 351W that runs mid 10's all day long on the 1320.

As said pay attention to the cooling system and exhaust, mounting it in is the easy part. I had some cooling issue with my old 88 Pro Street Ranger with a 383 Stoker in it at the beginning. Had to cut my radiator support and recess the radiator a bit to get a big enough one in there along with the twin fans. On my Current Ranger custom long tube ceramic fender well headers were made with a matching ceramic side exhaust and it was very expensive. On that I also run a big Alum Rad with twin fans and then I have a HUGE transmission radiator and fan underneath to keep the transmission cool.
