Imperfections on a aluminum intake

I put a used aluminum intake on a 302 in my 65 custom 500 and it ran like crap, changing carbs did nothing and it was running lean on 4 cylinders so the intake came back off,I noticed around a few ports there were gouges where someone had ground off a old gasket. How much imperfections are ok for it to seal and could sealer have been used to make up for the gouges. Jeff

You could try some JB weld as that has been used to repair aluminum manifolds..once you have applied the JB Weld then use a piece of metal block with some sandpaper to get the damaged areas straight again..then we hope it seals well for you..
