improving gelcoat appearance

I'm buying a 356 speedster replica that has a white gelcoat finish. I've seen gelcoat finish cars before and some look good while others look dulled. Is there a way to improve the gloss of these finishes? Is it possible to shoot clearcoat directly over these finishes to improve the appearance?
Thanks in advance,

Try buffing it first to see if the gloss comes back..Gel coat will buff up just fine..Just takes a bit of elbow grease..

If that does not work then you may be up for a paint job..

356 Speedster

I have tried most all of it and now do what is known to work..
