Increased horse power for a 1990 Corvette

I have a 1990 Corvette with the lowest horsepower 5.7 L engine and automatic transmission with 85,000 miles. I'm the original owner. I'm starting to get engine oil and transmission fluid leaks and since these need to be repaired I thought I'd go for some performance increase as well ...hopefully without the sacrifice of reliability. I have a budget of $10,000 and would like to bring the HP rating up to between 400 and 450. What would be the most rational and cost effective way to do that? Thanks, Paul

With a budget like that, you need to decide more specifics. What RPM range? Emissions-legal? What MPG? What transmission was it built with? What transmission do you want? Does the car have the optional 13" front brake rotors? Is it still wearing the original rubber bushings in the suspension?
Some of your budget may need to go into the brakes, transmission, differential, et cetera.
On that budget, doing the supporting items and having a legal 450 HP that can kiss 30 MPG is not impossible if you do most of the labor. If you pay for it done, you may not meet any of your goals.

Are you going to be doing the labor? Rebuilding an engine, removing, installing can suck up a lot of your budget.
