Indy 500.

For those who like Imports.

You will be interested to know that Honda will supply every single team with engines in the Indy 500.

Is there no one left in the US who can build an engine?

Honda Performance Development (HPD), a subsidiary of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., is the technical operations center for Honda's high-performance racing engines. HPD also coordinates Honda's participation in the IRL IndyCar Series.
HPD operates out of a 123,000-square-foot building in Santa Clarita, California; opened in late January, 2005. The two-story structure houses comprehensive engine Research & Development operations, including engine design; development engineering; prototype and production parts manufacturing; race engine preparation and rebuilding; material analysis facilities; quality control inspection areas; five engine dynamometer test cells; machine shop; electronics lab; parts center; multiple meeting/conference rooms; and administrative offices.

Unfortunately, our big three major auto makers do not have the same innovations and insight as the rest of the world does when it comes to designing autos. This is not pointed to the engineers, it is mostly directed towards the upper management and boards of directors. There are several engineers who get there great concepts snipped off at the get go from some mid level piss-ant manager who is in relations to the upper crust. And if you are not on the crust menu, your ideas are put out in the round file. So, this is why our countries auto makers are not getting anywhere.
The upper crust are only concerned with HOW MUCH JACK GETS PUT INTO THEIR POCKETS! And the rest of us, as consumers, pay the price.

hey, at that level, racing is a business. Honda apparently cares enough to do it right. GM, etc., can't be bothered.

Years ago I had some peripheral involvement with Ford's racing activities, mostly as custodian of some old info. They bailed out because they weren't making enough money to be bothered with it. All of the big automakers have been in and out of racing a few times over the years, for the same reason.

Indy 500 Is No Longer The Greatest Spectacle In Racing

American auto manufacturers are no longer involved in Indy car racing because the public interest for it has waned. The split between Cart and the IRL has pretty much ruined the sport. The big names of racing are either in Formula 1 or Nascar.

If you have alot of money, you can buy yourself a seat in an Indy car and of course, sign your own death warrant as happened a couple of weeks ago. You can't buy your way into Nascar, you do have to know how to drive.

If you noticed, there were empty seats at the Indy 500. It's a shame, but Tony George and company have ruined a great American tradition.

Who cares if Honda is the only powerplant? It would be similar to a Honda engine being the only one available for a lawn mower. Nobody would care.
