Studs are do not make the caps any stronger as they are still grey cast caps. More guys think adding studs changes the material or something.

Its like adding ARP rod bolts to an old set of rods they are still old rods with new hardware they ar not any stronger just stronger bolts.

Stud girdle does nothing to make the caps stronger !

So if i do get replacement caps i will need to inline bore the mains and hone ?

If its an old GM block its best to just line hone after alot of heat cycles I have never seen a block I could just dust out with a couple of strokes with the line hone and have the caps clean up all the way.

350chevyrob,take your block to a good machine shop and get it checked,its probably ok for a moderate street engine

Yea iv had napa do my machine work in the past just not decked and squared and clearanced for a 383 stroke.looks like its going to be a pretty tall bill lol ...thanks for all your guys info and help
