Info on Synthetic oil & gear oil
I got a few question on an oil called amsoil oil and gear oil.
Has anyone ever used this type of synthetic or had any dealing with this company or type of oil before?
This is a 1996 Ford F-150 XLT truck, Electronic 4-speed auto. tran.with a 5.8 engine a 3.8 ratto limited slip real axale. What weight synthetic gear oil would be best?
I'm putting this one back like it came from the factory. That will take me a while.
:pain: Bad news on my part, I went to the Doctor the day I joined the group and found out that both my knees needed a full knee replacement, so starting July-29-06 they'll fix my left Knee and Sept.7- 06 they will do the right one. I'v been putting this off for awhile. But last month I had a bad fall and I could't walk real good and the pain is unreal.
I know it will slow me down a lot and hurt like the dickens. I just can't stand to live with the pain any longer. But thats life. At least I will have two new knees.
Thanks for any info
maybe you should get the doc to give a squirt of that oil in your knees :welcome:
kidding, kidding :P
KennyG, Sorry to hear about your knees. I have had a LOT of Customers and friends that have had knee replacement, and, as near as I can tell, about 95% have had excellent results-good luck with that and let us know how it turns out! (by the way, it appears to me that the 5% failure group saw the glass as half empty)-
I have a '95 F150 that I bought brand new (still looks like that), and have used Synthetic in it from the end of break-in (only has about 45K on it though-sits in the Garage all the time). All of my vehicles have Synthetic in them (Mobil 1). I am running Synthetic Gear Oil in the Rear Axle (85-140?).
In my Yukon, it's Factory installed in the Transfer Case and Axles. I would highly recommend it-
Amatuzio is a pioneer in the synthetic oil business. I believe they started in the early 70s. Here's an article that appeared in the Duluth news today about him. here I use synthetic oil in all my vehicles. Dan
I am a firm believer in the benefits of synthetic lubricants. My wife and I put over 140K on a 97 Tahoe that had run Mobil 1 since it was new. Our 04 Tahoe has had it in it since the day we drove it home from the dealer. My 34 will also have Mobil 1 in it as soon as I put a few miles on it.
Amsoil is one of the best, as is Royal Purple.
Anyone who doubts the value of synthetic lubricants is living in the past and refuse to acknowledge the information available to them about synthetics.
I recommend you use the 75W90 gear oil in the axle. Amsoil has a severe duty gear oil but unless you have a heavy vehicle and tow a lot, it is not necessary.
If your engine does not use oil or leak it, use the weight recommended on the oil fill cap. Most 90's vehicles were recommended 5W-30 for normal duty and 10W30 for severe duty. I have been using 5W-30 and presently have 229K on my 92 2.8L V6. I get 6 to 8 K between quarts of oil consumption.
Get the engine flush and run it before you drain out the old dyno oil. I usually put on a brand new filter when I convert a vehicle to synthetic an drun the flush to help get the sludge and crud out. This allows the synthetic to begin working a bit faster.
Amsoil has the best filters too. They originally were rated 6 month or 12,500 miles with the 1 year or 25K miles recommended for the full synthetic. the new EaO type filters are rated for the full 1 year 25k. Both my 92 truck and 88 car will get their oil changed this week end and I have the new filters to use. The air filters are reuseable like the K&N. I have used a vacuum gauge to show as much as 1/2 inch of increased vacuum over a paper filter.
Oh yeah, I use amsoil. My 88 had 140K on it when I put the synthetic in it.
I have used Mobil 1 Synthetic oil ever sence I bought my new F-150 Ford Truck, and have used it in my new Tractor I bought 11 years ago.I use Synthetic in everthing that has a motor. After reading about Amsoil I was sold on it. I like the way they do business and stand behind ther product and the way the make everthing, oil filters air & ect.
I became a Perferred Coustomer so I can get it at dealer price which I have already done. I have changed all my motors over to Amsoil oil. my desial pusher takes 5 gallons I will change it over soon to Amsoil and filters.
I want to thank all you guys for all your help. I will keep all you informed on my Knees.I hope the new ones will help me get rid of the pain and I can walk better.
Thanks for all your support and God Bless everyone. This is a GREAT GROUP.
PS:Thanks to Oldred for all the help on my new air compressor and telling me how to pipe it in when I get it and the extra stuff i need for it .
Thanks, Kenny G
