Ingersoll Rand Compressor Recommendations
Does anyone have any recommendations on Ingersoll Rand Compressors. More specifically the one listed below. The price is right but I am not sure of the name. I would appreciate any help that you can provide. I was looking for a 60 gallon compressor but then one of the members told me about this 80 gallon unit for a good price. I am ready to get it but I would like to know a little more about the reliability.
Thanks Dave http://www.mytscstore.com/detail.asp...productID=9181 |

Are you asking if Ingersoll Rand is a good name?! I hope to shout it is! IR is one of the top two or three industrial tool makers in the world! I worked on a project that used 1,500 HP of electric motor driven IR 2-stage compressors and they ran nearly trouble free for 15 years and they were 40 years old when we got them! IR compressors have been used all over industry for nearly a century. If you can afford this unit, by all means buy it.

I would agree with Willys and n66ht about the IR compressor. However, you are in a price range where you might also want to consider a 2-stage unit. I just saw a Husky (Campbell Hausfeld makes these) 2-stage (80 gal, 175 max pressure, 15.1 @ 90) for $869 at the Local Home Depot. Also Sears has a Craftsman 2-stage (175 max, 17.4 @ 100, 16.9 @ 175) for $849.
I am also in the market for a new compressor and saw the IR you are looking at on Tractor Supply's web site. However, their nearest store is about 8 hours round trip from where I live - so I'm leaning toward one of the 2-stage units. It will actually end up cheaper for me than the single stage IR. But if you have a Tractor Supply nearby - you won't go wrong with the IR. Dewey

Rich,
That is a typo in the specs on the web page. Before I bought this compressor I called IR and they told me it was 18@90. I now have that style of compressor and the compressor spec tag is stamped with 18@90psi Kev |

Look for a 2 stage. Much quieter and longer lasting. I have a 2 stage 60 gal. Wished I would have gotten the 80. Always wanting more........
