Initial Break-In
76 Chev Pickup, 350/th350, 3:40's, ,mild cam, flat top pistons, stock heads, Q-jet, stock manifold...
After my first rebuild, a year ago, lost oil pressure.....read all posts regarding oil pressure. Pulled the engine, mains severely worn ( believe a bead got in there after blasting) What I did this time was set her in, bolt up the trans, THEN I put oil and filter in, and primed it BEFORE hooking up the torque converter; then I found TDC, bolted on my accessories, cranked her up, ALL GOOD! So I ran her about 25 minutes, (in the driveway) revved up to about 2000RPM a couple of times, brought up to temp, shut down. Oil is still pretty and "piss colored". Changed the oil. Gonna go 100 miles and change again, then 500 miles/change. Sound correct? Hope she lasts longer than a year this time..........

It will probably be ok. Most cam makers recommend that you fire it and immediately go to 2000 rpm for no less than 30 minutes to ensure proper non-roller cam break in.
did you re-use the old cam? Rings? If so, you'll probably be ok. Mark

i have never seen piss colored oil. what does your diet consist of?
