Inline Six

What year is a chevy inline six cylinder engine if the first two letters of the block id# are FO????

That would be a F=19, 0=60, So you have a 1960 best inline engine ever built if in the range of 1960 to 1966 years. You are very lucky to have found such a jewel

I don't know about the coding, but as far as A-P's comments, he has to be confused. Since the 1960 engine is an entirely different engine than the '66. I think they introduced their new small 6 in '62 and the big 6 in'66(both are related) so one or the other may be the best but since they are 2 entirely different engine, they BOTH can't be the best. Someone is unfamiliar with the topic apparently.

Woods has it right, Auto-Parts usually has nothing useful to say in his posts. His interpretation of the code is total fantasy.

Check with these guys. If they don't know, no one does! They have a link to casting numbers for all GM inline 6s.
