Make your own sticker. How hard can it be? I make a tag for my car every year.

why not just bring the car up to standards. don't they give you a punchlist of things to fix when it fails?

Not sure what he failed for and don't know what the NJ standards are now, but when I was in NJ in the early '70's my '69 428 Mach 1 failed for 2 things. The first was too loud exhaust (that's safety related?), it had a solid intact stock system, and when I explained that to the guy he just shrugged, the second was too small a steering wheel, it was only about 2"smaller than the stock one, so sometimes it is harder than you would think to get it through. It didn't help that at the time service shops were giving kickbacks to the inspectors who would refer you to some "accepted" repair shops. While they were busted for it I can't believe it doesn't still occur on a slightly more subtle basis. I don't miss NJ. at all.

I was in Joisey in 2000, working the docks. There was a terrible problem with their new inspection stations, brand new cars were failing. Do these problems still exist and can you appeal the problems? And no, I don't miss Jersey one bit...

If your Nova is a 78 or below just QQ it, no inspection and you only pay one time for your regristration for as long as you own it.

Yeah Jersey had a lot of failure problems. Mostly due to improperly trained workers at the state inspection facilities. Usually it was a NOX failure from running the cars too hot, at times the wait in the lines were 4 hrs long. State workers were burning up clutches on the dynos. Don't miss that mess at all. Best thing to do in Jersey is find someone at a private garage that does state inspections that might be willing to work with you.

hell if you have a current looking inspection sticker, look at the numbers, make you a current number (like 6), peel back the inspection sticker gently, peel off the old number, and put on the new one.
i have done this many times, but i was a inspector and got the numbers for free.
or go to a family owned place and buy a number from them.

My truck has no catalitic converter, etc., etc., etc. ... I had it "inspected" at a local mechanic's shop when he did some other work for me. He said it passed NJ inspection -- I figured he just did the emissions deal twice on a newer car and logged me in on one of 'em ... right? Of course I didn't ask, I was just glad to get the sticker ... but without a cat, etc., would it possibly pass emissions???

Someone said that since cat's weren't produced in 1954 that maybe I wasn't required to have 'em for inspection ... I dunno ... but seems to me an emissions test is an emissions test.

Anyway, I would try a local garage ... especially if it's someone you know or do regular business with -- forget the inspection stations.

Also, I wouldn't want QQ plates -- you're limited to like 3000 miles per year, eh? I got regular plates and found antique insurance with unltd. mileage.
