The bigger line won't hurt if you run it on a Small Block... I run 1/2'' on my big block cars even on a hot small block sometimes... I use 3/8'' a lot as well..The pump is only going to take what it needs..
I like the bigger line, Over having to small of a line, that way the pump always has enough fuel..
