So I bought a 1999 K1500 pickup with the 5.7 vortec but the engine knocks bad. So what I want to do is get my regular rebuilt 5.7 350 and put it into the pickup. What am I going to need to swap from one to another or can I not do that and just get parts? If so what parts should I get. Really need help fast so please respond, Thanks.
The block will bolt in and will match the transmission. Where you will run into problems is in the heads and intake manifold. You did not say but I am thinking the 99 has throttle-body injection and computer controlled. SOOOOO change the heads and manifold and I think you will be good to go.
So I need to go purchase heads and intake manifold or can i swap from 99? And is it going to be computer controlled still if I put vortec parts on the regular 350 or is that a whole other ball game.

You realize that by removing an emissions compliant engine and replacing it with an earlier, noncompliant engine, that you are breaking federal law, don't you?
Just transfer the newer engine electronics over on the older block and go with that. In 1995 the electronics changed along with the interior cab parts. you may run into cam and crank sensor location and mounting problems but I dont know. My engine is a 1994 4.3 and a breeze to work on but I dont know that much about the electronics on the 1995 and up engines. In the middle of 1999 they did another change with the whole truck body and rhe interior and again electronics.
