Exhaust "between" 5 and 7? You're thinking of the Olds, not the Pontiac. The Pontiac has the same valve/port "layout" as small block Chevy, with a better intake port and a HORRIBLE exhaust port...
One thing not mentioned yet: Pontiac distributor rotates CCW, opposite that of the Chevy. Make sure the wires are installed accordingly.
