Installing a 56 dynaflow in a 54 Roadmaster

I need help and advice on an installation I would like to make. I just purchased a 1956 Buick 322 nailhead for my car. Also I have a 56 dynaflow trans I can purchase if I can find out if it will work for my application. I want to up grade my 1954 Buick roadmaster. Can I do it, please break it down for me in detail? Thank you for your help in advance. I would like to get this completed during the Christmas holidays. Thanks again, Texasfats
I appreciate any and all help and advice.

dynaflow doctor

helped a friend put a 1956 super engine/trans into a 1955 centurty once. the torque tube seemed about an inch too long-but it fit anyway. longer probably longer due to wheelbase difference.

56 Dyna Flow into a '54 Buick

I was a GM tech for ten years and the Dynaflow transmissions from late 1953 (first Buick V8) through to 1958 were almost all the same automatic transmission. There were some internal improvements but the bolt patterns and mounts are all compatible UNTIL you get to a Biuck Hearse, Limosene or Ambulance. Whether it was a 266, 322 or 364 the cases are the same.

from experience, ithink 264-322 bellhousing larger diameter than later engins and torque tubes longer or frame stretch change after 1955.better measure first to be sure. i have always wanted to try 264/322 iron bellhousing and probably torque conv on later dynaflows to see if everything links up ok. 61--63 are my favorites because still had dynaflow with open driveshaft.
