I am installing a head unit on a 62 caddy, but I am not cutting up the dash. I need help with the wiring. I have the manual, so hooking up the speakers, providing constant power and constant ground is easy. But I am confused with the switch power. What the hell do I hook that up to? Constant power is yellow, ground is black, and switched power is red. I am still learning, so treat me as though I am mildly retarded. Thanks in advance for any response.

Find the fuse that Say's RADIO on the fuse panel, pull it and see what wire loses power..that will be the one you will require for hooking up switched power..

If you Can not find that wire find any wire that goes on and off with the KEY, install a proper fuse and hook your Players wire there..you should be fine..

I went looking on my stock harness installs for 62 Caddy, bu my stuff does not go that far back sorry ... else I could give you a color.. however to shoot a guess pay attention to Red, Orange, and yellows..Oh, and after you find one, be sure it doesn't rise and fall with the dimmers...that won't work.

i might be wrong, but i always thought that ORANGE was for constant power (memory) and yellow was to signal a power antenna?

That may be true on the CD side of the harness, But the Vehicle side had no memory in 1962 , and power antennas were a rare item..

I think he's looking for the Vehicle side of things.

The Caddy does have a power antenna, but im not worried about that so much; I'm not installing the head unit for the radio. You were right, I just had to connect the switched power to the fuse box. Thanks a lot. Just a follow up. Were the speakers grounded to the car? I dont quite understand how that worked especially because the warning labels on new speakers say not to ground them via the car body. Any insight?
