Measure from the front header to the bow and the bow to the deck lid opening. You are trying to keep the bow at the exact spot it was originally installed at. If it moves any significant amount there is He!! to pay. This determines the height of the door openings and the rear window space.

There is a specified measurement for every make of car. It is from the main bow to the rear deck where the rear window curtain goes. If your manual does't tell what it is, call the top manufacture.

I've done all the work on my I-ROC but when I decided it was time to replace the top, I looked at the directions and this is what I did. Got in the car, started it up, and dropped it off at the top shop. Look at it this way. If something goes wrong at least you will have a warranty letting someone else do it. Mine called for 8 hours labor for someone who knew what they were doing. I feel like it was worth every penny.

Remember, when you buy your own top, it's YOUR top. If a warranty issue requires removal of the old top and a warranty top to be installed, it's up to you to pay the labor. Sometimes saving a hundred bucks or so on a top just isn't worthwhile.

Well as far as warranty issues that may be the case with some top shops. I purchased my top from ez-on tops. Cost me $169.99. The top shop put it in wrighting that if anything happen to the top due to their installation it will be covered for 5 years. This was the same shop that wanted $1025.00 to install a top if they suppied it. I supplied it and only cost me $250.00. That's a killer savings. The top also has a 5 year warranty and if it fails the ez-on company pays the labor for replacment. It's a win win situation. How can you lose.

"Due to their installation" is the key to that phrase. Basicly, they are giving you warranty on their labor. EZ-On's warranty only covers labor for the first year, and it's only an "allowance", not the full amount. The top is warranted 100% through the 24 month and after that is pro-rated up the 60th month.

NOTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!! Ez will pay 100% of warranty for the full 5 years. I did alot of research before purchasing my top. I'm not going to have any out of pocket expense for the whole 5 years. I don't have a habbit of flushing money. I wanted to make sure my butt was covered. 6 months of research pays off.

I'll just say that I've been using EZ-On Tops for the last 6 years, Installed one today on a Ford Capri, Installed one on a Sebring Friday, and another 100 or so in the last year. If you would like, I can send you one of the twenty EZ-On warranty cerificates laying around the shop that explains the warranty CLEARLY. BTW, I've only been through the warranty process with EZ-ON 3 times in six years. I'm glad you're happy with your purchase and hope you have no problems, but you are definately mistaken on the warranty. I'm also sure that at $1,025 you were quoted for a Stayfast Canvas top and that's not what you bought for 169.00. $250 is a cheap price for the installation, I'm surprised they would install your top for less than the labor they were charging for their $1,025 top.

Well that's what I paid. I'm sure you install plenty of tops from ez on but I can asure you that the warranty I am now holding in my hand says exactly what I posted. I also have in my hand the invoice where I paid 250.00 for the installation. The top I purchased from ez on is the exact top that was removed from my iroc. The top shop was also supprised to see the top and the warranty.

Man, I had to take a convertible partly off to allow a welder to get in to weld one of the bows.

That was scary, because the owner of the car is super anal. But, me, 17 at the time, took it apart a good amount, and put it back without a wrinkle...

Not trying to start anything, but the owner couldn't have been too anal about his car to let a 17 yr.old make repairs for him.

Exclamation

Convertibles tops just are not for do-it-yourself guys. In the long run you will probably hate yourself! I was in a Triumph sports club in Phoenix, which were almost all roadsters, we all agreed that this was best left up to the pros, especially if you wanted to (1) keep dry, and (2) be able to raise and lower the top, by yourself withou help and and "blue air". Save your money and find a pro who does tops all the time, not as a side-line!!!!
